Nevada Cancer Institute Appoints Michael Yackira as Vice Chairman of Board of Directors

Las Vegas – June 4, 2010 – Nevada Cancer Institute (NVCI) is pleased to announce that Michael W. Yackira, president and chief executive officer, NV Energy, has been appointed to the position of vice chairman for the Institute’s Board of Directors.
“The range of experience Michael Yackira possesses will deliver a level of expertise that will greatly benefit the Board and the Institute,” said Stephen J. Cloobeck, chairman of NVCI’s Board of Directors. “The Board celebrates with Yackira on his new appointment and looks forward to working with him to advance the Institute’s vision of becoming one of the world’s premier clinical and research cancer centers.”
Yackira joined NV Energy (formerly Sierra Pacific Resources) in January 2003. He was elected president and chief executive officer, effective August 1, 2007, and serves on NV Energy’s Board of Directors.
Yackira spent more than a decade as an executive with FPL Group, serving in several positions, including president of FPL Energy; vice president, finance and chief financial officer of FPL Group; and senior vice president of market and regulatory services. His experience includes extensive roles in operations, finance and regulatory matters in other industries, including telecommunications, oil and gas.
Yackira holds a bachelor of science degree in accounting from Lehman College, City University of New York, and is a certified public accountant. He is also a board member of the Nevada Development Authority, UNLV Foundation board of trustees, Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce board of trustees and the Council for a Better Nevada. In addition, Yackira serves as a member of the board of directors of the Edison Electric Institute.
